The builder standard

A new home is a big buy. So I made a rule. A builder must pass all 3 checks below, or its homes do not go on this site. That way, every home you see here is from a builder you can trust.

  1. Licensed and clean. Licensed on Ontario's official Builder Directory (HCRA). No company in the builder's group has lost its licence or been refused one, and the builder doesn't owe real money to Tarion, the new home warranty program.
  2. Proven delivery. At least 300 homes built and registered with Tarion. No first projects.
  3. Good warranty record. Tarion had to step in and settle a warranty problem on no more than 1 in every 100 of the builder's homes.

Always do your own checks too. You can look up any builder for free at obd.hcraontario.ca.
